About Us

Sunflower Broadband (formerly known as Sunflower Cablevision) first entered the cable television business in 1970. Offering just 10 channels and a better picture quality than an antenna could provide, Sunflower Cablevision quickly became a household name in many homes in Lawrence and Douglas County. In 1975, Sunflower launched Channel 6 News, and became Lawrence's only local television news operation. Channel 6 now offers award-winning, daily newscasts Monday through Friday as well as a broad offering of locally produced programming, including replays of local high school and collegiate sports events, local election coverage, and much more.

Sunflower has become a leader among independent cable operators in the telecommunications industry. In 1995, Sunflower became the first cable company to deploy DOCSIS modems to out subscribers and we followed that up with the launch of digital cable in 1998. Then in 2001, Sunflower Broadband became one of the first cable companies in the country to launch telephone service. Named Independent Cable Operator of the year in 2003, Sunflower continues to blaze the trail in new technology by becoming one of the first cable companies to give customers a 100% all-digital channel line-up.

Although cable television programming remains our core business, our advanced broadband network has become the conduit through which we can provide our customers with highly advanced video, data, and voice services. We are now working together with many local businesses to provide everything from simple Internet and communication services to complex networking and telecommunication projects. Because we are locally owned and operated, we are able to provide fast local service and technical support to both our residential and commercial customers and as a multi-service provider, we can customize a telecommunications package that is a perfect fit for almost anyone!

Sunflower Broadband serves the Lawrence, Eudora, and Douglas County area. Delivering over 200 television channels, high-speed cable modem Internet access, and local and long distance telephone services. A converged news partnership between the Lawrence Journal-World, 6NEWS, and World Online provides our community with an unparalleled local news and information resource for a community of this size.

Sunflower Broadband currently employs nearly 200 people from Lawrence and the surrounding area. Because Sunflower is made up of your neighbors and friends, your ideas and opinions are truly heard. We are proud to be part of this unique community and look forward to an exciting future!
